Composite Fillings

Composite Tooth-Colored Fillings

The most aesthetic filling material available today, composite fillings are matched directly to the shade of your teeth. These fillings, unlike the silver amalgam fillings, are bonded directly to your teeth which increases the strength of your teeth. Amalgam fillings are mechanically locked in place and do not expand and contract with heat and cold like that of your own teeth. This can cause several fractures in the enamel and can often cause your tooth to break.

As your gums recede, the root surface of the tooth is exposed and normal brushing can cause this surface to erode and cause sensitivity in the tooth around the gum line. When fluoride alone is not enough to help the sensitivity, a composite filling can be placed to prevent further erosion and decrease the sensitivity.
